Deathwatch Logo

Hello all, for those of you still following my once in a blue moon posts, I thought I’d report in as some interesting Dark Angels news has come up in the last couple days. Fantasy Flight Games, makers of such fantastic board games as Arkham Horror, A Game of Thrones, Descent, and a plethora of others, as well at releasing an updated version of Talisman, are going to be adding to their line of Warhammer 40k role-playing products, Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader. Deathwatch, a role-playing game that will involve our favorite genetically enhanced super humans the Space Marines. To top it off they just announced that one of the chapters in the initial release of the game will be the Dark Angels. The Dark Angels were the 3rd Chapter announced, the first being the Space Wolves (boo hiss) and the second being the Smurfs, I mean Ultramarines.

I know some of you are saying but wait, Dark Angels and the Inquisition playing nice together? There were a few comments to the same effect on the announcement page, but it’s always been my opinion and I posted as much in those same comments, that the Dark Angels while secretive and completely obsessed with the hunt for the Fallen are not so blind that they wouldn’t see the advantage of having their troops in a place where they could keep an eye on the Inquisition. (And I think the Inquisition would think the same thing about keeping an eye on the Dark Angels.) Think about it, the Deathwatch are going to be in a position to possibly run into the Fallen. If they do and the Dark Angels aren’t there, how will they be able to cover it up before the Inquisition knows what’s going on. As I said in my comment, keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.

Anyway I’m really excited to see this book when it comes out as anything Dark Angels gets me all tingly inside. Fantasy flight is known for their great artwork as well so I’m sure this release will be no exception.

You can check out the main website for Deathwatch here. And the Dark Angels announcement here.

On a completely different note, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve done any miniature work since my departure from Games Workshop. However I finally broke down and got a Fortress of Redemption for my birthday a couple weeks ago. WOW, if you haven’t seen one in person or already picked one up I totally recommend it. Its really a great kit, very well put together and  perfect for that gaming table centerpiece.

Take care everyone,

- bish

P.S. One last thing and this probably deserves it’s own post but Fantasy Flight has also just released a board game based on the Horus Heresy. (Yes it’s Fantasy Flight day) Everything I’ve heard is that it’s fantastic, I’m anxious to pick up a copy. The pictures I’ve seen make it appear to live up to the quality of Fantasy Flights other board games. Check it out here.

Space Hulk Arrives: To Deathwing or not to Deathwing… That is the question!

Space Hulk arrived a couple days ago. I have to say I’m very impressed. The miniatures are top notch (for Blood Angels :P ) The boards pieces and counters are spectacular. They used really nice thick board pieces so you know these are going to last and I was surprised to find that they actually added some texture to the board pieces themselves. I do have one complaint and that is I was hoping the squares on the board would fit 40mm bases however they are the same size as the previous versions of Space Hulk. Also It would have been great to have the rule and mission books either hardcover or perfect bound like a codex. However that’s just me nit-picking I’m a bit anal retentive when it comes to my rule books heh.

But over all this is a fantastic box set and if you were on the fence I’d say take the plunge they really did Space Hulk justice.

Now the real question becomes, do I convert all these Blood Angel Terminators to Deathwing? Part of me wants too because they are just such nice miniatures with a ton of detail and would look great painted bone. The other side of me doesn’t want to convert these miniatures at all BECAUSE they looks so good as they are. Maybe I should just paint them up as Blood Angels and hope for a Deathwing Expansion? hehe.

What do you all think?

- Bish

P.S. Bell of Lost Souls has some great support products for Space Hulk listed here.
